Abstract

Multigrade classrooms, in contrast to single-grade classrooms, are a form of educational organization in which students from different grade levels are taught together in the
same classroom. Despite the advantages of this form of classroom organization and its quantitative growth in various countries, multigrade teaching poses numerous challenges for teachers, including the simultaneous delivery of multiple curricula within the instructional hours allocated to single-grade classrooms. This creates two major challenges: curriculum volume and instructional time. One of the most important approaches to addressing both challenges is to develop an integrated curriculum for each subject area that distributes instructional content throughout the academic year in accordance with available instructional time and learners’ characteristics. The present study aimed to design an integrated curriculum for the Gifts of Heaven (Hadiyehaye Aseman) course in multigrade classrooms. A qualitative descriptive-analytical approach was employed, based on a content analysis of the religious education curriculum at the primary-school level and the Gifts of Heaven textbooks for Grades 2 through 6 used in schools. Given the relative stability and diversity of teaching and assessment methods in this subject area, the study focused on
the objectives and content components of the integrated curriculum. By developing an integrated model of instructional objectives and content for the Gifts of Heaven course and extending it to the development of an integrated lesson plan, the study provides multigrade teachers with a clear instructional pathway and creates the conditions for more effective teaching of the course, with the ultimate aim of deepening learners’ faith and strengthening their practical commitment to religious values
